Zion National Park
It can be so easy for us to miss out on all the beauty the world has to offer, even when it is just around the corner from us. I have always lived relatively close to dense national forests, famous rivers, and national parks but haven't spent as much time as I should at these beautiful landmarks.
Recently I had the opportunity to see the national monument Cedar Breaks, explore the Dixie National Forest, and hike my way around Zion National Park.
It was a quick 4 hour drive to our cozy cabin in the village of Duck Creek. With no running water, cold nights, and 8 people in one room...this cabin quickly became a fun home for the weekend.
Cedar Breaks is known as a natural amphitheater that stretches around 3 miles and a depth of about 2,000 ft with an elevation of around 10,000. The view is spectacular as you can see mountains in the distance, an arrange of colorful cliffs, and a protected forest where nature is protected from us humans. In the photos below you may see smoke rising from the forest. This is a natural caused fired that has been burning for over 2 months. The Forest Service of Utah is watching the fire closely but allowing nature to take its own path.
A hiking trail between Duck Creek Village and Navajo Lake will lead you through another breathtaking view of the Dixie National Forest, with more red rock and a waterfall flowing out of the rock from Navajo Lake.
Zion National Park is an expansive canyon filled with hiking trails, natural rock arches, a river and lots of wildlife. Some of the more famous hikes are The Narrows and The Subway which is a section of the canyon where the walls are around a thousand feet tall and the river narrows to around 20 ft in some sections. You could spend days hiking all over the canyon taking in the many breathtaking views it provides. Driving through the canyon and going through the tunnels is another fun way to see more of the park without having to hike all of it.
